Amma’s International Women’s Day Message 2024

My beloved children,

Today on 8 March, which is International Women’s Day, I felicitate all the women and girls of the world for their heroic achievements in the economic, cultural and political spheres that are building a common humanity with a shared destiny for all. We all embrace the intrinsic idea that “the world is one family”. The Day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality in a fair and just world, which is free of biases, stereotypes and discrimination that put women in shackles. I am aware of each of your actions, big and small, and salute you for your vision and selfless commitment to attain a diverse, inclusive and stable world that forges gender parity.

The IWD belongs to everyone, everywhere, as it did way back in 1991 when it was supported by a million people. Yet, we acknowledge that despite all the progress made, women and girls face insurmountable obstacles to the full realization of their human potential. There are many millions of women, whose human security and survival are endangered by extreme poverty, stark hunger and malnutrition, impoverished incomes, soaring prices, conflicts and the destructive forces of climate change. All of these are further aggravated by violence against women perpetuated by centuries-old deeply encrusted traditions and norms.

Therefore, dear children, let us not forget that the International Women’s Day belongs to all groups collectively, everywhere. International Women’s Day is not country, group or organization specific. However, on this day, while we celebrate, we also resolve to stand up for women everywhere, upholding their dignity and rights with bold and forward-looking actions. We must not only raise awareness but take resolute action that drives decisive change to form a circle of unity among women - the peace builders and peace makers of the world which then radiates out to the universe.

Feminine spirituality, inspired by prayer, meditation, loving nurture and compassion, is the way to emerge from the current labyrinth of turmoil and chaos witnessed presently.

I assure you that the SMVA Trust, along with you all my dear children, will not rest till we harness our synergies to reach justice for all. I am proud of you and your efforts to foster sisterhood globally

With all my love,

Amma.
